For our first project in art 4 we had to create a piece about reflections. We had to make a piece that contained a reflection of ourselves but also contained reflective values. I chose to draw a picture of something in my bedroom. I knew I wanted to do a picture of something in my bedroom because a lot of inspiration happens in my room, it is also where I am most comfortable to be myself. My bedroom also reflects me because it has all of my belongings in it from posters, to clothes, to art pieces I've done in the past. The picture I chose reflects me because it includes aspects of what I love to do (art) but it also is in a place that i hold very dear to my heart (something from my room).
I 'm not trying to brag but this was only my second time doing prismacolor. That made me very nervous on how the final product would come out. I wasn't sure if I could do what I wanted to do as well as I wanted to do it ,because I hadn't had that much experience with this medium. Overall, I think it all came out really well. But, there is always room for improvement. Something I learned during this unit was how to color smoother. I also learned how to color more realistically and how to make your highlights really pop. I think each of those lessons helped my piece look a lot more realistic, especially the highlights. I used my smother coloring skills on the cup. That helped it look more realistic as well. My strengths for this unit were my coloring, my color choices, and my drawing skills. I think my choice to draw all of the shapes first and then fill them in helped a lot when planning where I should start on every little piece. It made finishing the piece a whole lot easier. The colors that I chose made everything go together. There was a lot of blues, but the way I used them all differently, I think made the picture look really cool. Something I really love about my piece is the composition. For my composition I based it off one pitcure but then changed the perspective. I think it really helps everything stand out: the watercolor palette, the paint cup, and the paint tubes. My weaknesses were the water drops. They were very difficult to color because they had to have highlights, had to be transparent, but also had to have color. I struggled a lot with them, because I would start out with an outline and then try to color them like raindrops, but I think the outline kind of took away from it. It made it look more like an outline. But, think the raindrops turned out pretty decent. Overall, I feel proud of how well I executed my piece. I'm very happy how everything came out in the end.
