In this project we had to create a self portrait. Ideas for this project were hard to come with because sometimes it can hard to work with idea of yourself instead of other people because you're more critical of yourself but people in general can also be very hard to create in art. Some ideas I thought would be interesting were to turn myself into a creature or witch but I was unsure of how I could make it to where it was different and my own. I also thought about going a cartoonie route but I didn't decide to take it. In the end, I chose a more realistic style: me in a monochromatic style in blue. I chose this theme because it depicts how I feel a lot of the time: very blue. Something that made this piece very unique was the shading I chose. I created this shading by taking a picture in a dark room with the flash on. This is something I really enjoy about this piece. It makes it really interesting to look at. During this project I had a lot of progress drawing people. I've also never drawn myself before, that was a challenging experience. Although my face is drawn very well, there are still things I wish I could fix about it. For example, I wish I could have better proportions on my eyes, they came out a little different than my reference picture and I wish they looked better. Something also very challenging was my background. For a while, I was unsure of what of what I wanted to put as my background, but I think what I chose fit really well with everything else I had done. Like the shading, it was also very interesting to look at. My blue face(and green scarf) with the pink/magenta background really contrast against each other which makes the end result very vibrant and exciting. Overall, I give this project a 3.8 stars. Everything came out very well but I feel like I could have put more effort into it and got better face proportions, and small touches on the background.
